A A L Madhushani has bagged Sri Lanka's Outstanding young sport Academic Award

As a ?pracademic?  engaged in both research and practice she brings a unique skill set to her work and students, with a strong focus on the strategic design and implementation of student academic work in the Department of Sports Sciences and Physical Education at the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.   Looking back to her achievements, it was a journey of challenges with learning exposure to produce a smarter worker achieving the best. 

She was born in the North western province, Nattandiya in Sri Lanka on January 16th of 1988 and completed her primary and secondary education in Dhammissara National College in Nattandiya.  As an active student she was able perform exceptionally well in academic work as well as in extra-curricular activities.  She had the opportunity to lead the school Volleyball, Track and Field, Netball teams, and led the  school Volleyball team to win at National All-Island Volleyball Championship in a couple of years.  During her tenure as the School Volleyball Team Captain of the Dhammissara National College Volleyball Team, was able to win the All Island Sri Lanka school Volleyball Championship  in the all the categories tournaments from Under 15 ? 19 as a record of Sri Lanka Volleyball history.  

She has awarded Best player, Best Attacker and number of other awards at National Junior Level Volleyball in Sri Lanka. Apart from that, she was fortunate to represent Sri Lanka at the Asian Junior women?s Volleyball Championships in 2006. The connection between sport and intellectual intervention, made her an outgoing character. The ?Excellence, Influence and Recognition? was her motto and worked towards achieving most of the tasks at her best. She managed her personal and interpersonal act well and using ?SPORT? as vehicle to reach targets and overcome challenges.  

As result of her hard-work, she was able to achieve lifetime goals by entering to the state university of Sri Lanka. She had the privilege to study Sport and Recreation Management as an undergraduate at the University of Kelaniya, one of the leading state University in Sri Lanka.  In the year 2011, she has completed the Special four-year degree with a first-class upper division. In university life she had many friends, she earn respect from her colleagues and superiors. The courage gained through sport supported to accomplish both her classroom and sports arena in a sense of balance. She was able to lead the Kelaniya University Volleyball team to win five times Sri Lanka University Volleyball Championship as Captain of the team and Awarded Best performer of Girls Volleyball at Sri Lanka University Colours award.   Soon after graduating, she was invited to the position of head coach of Women?s Volleyball team in the University of Kelaniya in 2012. Also, she has worked as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Kelaniya from the day she finished her bachelor at the University of Kelaniya.

The subject knowledge and my active involvement in sports arena supported in obtaining a permanent lecturer position at the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka from 01st November 2012, subsequently at the very young age of 24. Now, she has completed 8 years of experience in the academic field in the Department of Sport Sciences and Physical Education Faculty of Applied Sciences in the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka as a Senior Lecturer. 

She has completed my Master?s degree in Olympic Studies at German Sport University, Cologne from 2015 -2017 to fulfil her postgraduate requirement as an academic.  She won an international Olympic solidarity scholarship for her Master?s degree from the International Olympic Committee. As well as she received a national scholarship from NCAS, University grant commission in Sri Lanka. The Olympic Studies Centre at the German Sport University organizes the Olympic Studies Master together with the University of Barcelona, Loughborough University, Canterbury University NZ, and the Technical University Kaiserslautern. She has fortunate to study in different environments such as the International Olympic Academy and the University of Barcelona in Europe. 

She have involved in different extracurricular activities apart from academic. She is working as a key coordinator of the National Olympic Committee as a voluntary service regarding conduct national and international sports events such as Commonwealth Games and organize sport education programme such as Olympic value education Programme. She has worked with different international event as a volunteer ICC World cup 2011, Commonwealth Games Baton Relay, Regional session of Commonwealth Games in 2017.

Also, she has gained several foreign exposure and experience as a Player, Academic and Researcher in different countries such as Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece, Japan, India and Thailand. Also, she worked with different leading Universities and Institutes such as German Sport University of Cologne, Autonomous University of Barcelona, International Olympic Academy of Athens, Loughborough University of UK, Verona University of Italy, Paris SUD University of France, Johannesburg University of SA and NIFISA Sports academy of Japan. Those foreign experience will be important and helpful to develop her further academic career. 

As an academic she has published more than twenty scientific research and publication for national and international research journals. Also she has presented number of International Research conferences in Sri Lanka as well as Europe in the field of Sport Management and Olympic studies.  

Lakshika Madhushani will be planning to start her Doctorate Degree in German Sport University in Institute of European Sport Development and leisure studies, 2021. 

There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.
