Chaminda Hindurangala has bagged Asia's Outstanding Business Leader Of The Year



Chaminda Hindurangala, is an outstanding and accomplished multifaceted Professional leader with experience in business transformation, process analysis and Business Process Reengineering in many diverse business sectors with experience in South Africa, Australia, Mozambique and of course Sri Lanka.

He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, has an MBA from the University of Wales (UK), a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) Australia, an Associate member of Certified Management Accountants (ACMA, Sri Lanka) and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.

Chaminda Hindurangala has been with Aitken Spence Group for over 20 years; one of the leading diversified blue-chip conglomerates in Sri Lanka with operations spanning 4 major sectors, across 8 countries in 16 diverse industries with a workforce of over 12,500 employees. A member of the Management Council of Aitken Spence PLC, Chaminda Hindurangala is presently the Chief Operating Officer of Aitken Spence Elevators. He is also a Director of Aitken Spence Ports International Limited.

Having successfully played significant roles within the power generation segment and the maritime segment at Aitken Spence PLC, Chaminda took over the leadership of the elevators segment in 2018. He was previously heading operations of the port management business in Africa. Aitken Spence Elevators is a Joint Venture between Aitken Spence PLC and OTIS Elevator Company (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. Aitken Spence Elevators is the sole representative in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, for OTIS Elevator Company; the world’s largest manufacturer and a service provider for people-moving products including elevators, escalators and moving walkways. OTIS Elevator Company is a US based Fortune 500 Company.

Winning contracts to supply and install elevators for the World Trade Centre in Colombo, Havelock City, Bandaranaike International Airport, Altair, Hyatt, Prime Grand Colombo, 606 the Address, ITC One-Colombo-One, leading 5-star hotels and luxury apartment complexes are the best certificate for the quality of the OTIS product and for the exceptional service provided by Aitken Spence Elevators in terms of installation and maintenance. Chaminda has provided commendable leadership to Aitken Spence Elevators especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. He has been able to turnaround the Company from a loss to a handsome profit, even during these tough times, by engaging the staff, motivating the staff, and leading them right from the front. He is a passionate, energetic, resolute, hands-on leader who works with his teams to bring out the best in them. 

Under his guidance and leadership, the Company also introduced innovative products like touch-less buttons, Air Purifiers, Sanitized handrails, to their clientele especially during Covid-19 pandemic to make using of elevators safer and hassle-free. He also digitized and cloud hosted all manual files in the company hence making it accessible anytime from anywhere and also implemented a cloud-based Elevator Service management system to monitor and improve the service quality. Driving people, process and technology improvements for better customer and staff engagement, while introducing strategic growth, agile ways of working, new structures, cost leadership strategies and maximizing the bottom line of the business are his strengths. Another significant achievement during the year was giving leadership and guidance to obtain the prestigious ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 certificates for the Company for environmental impact control and occupational health and safety.

Chaminda, while continues to deliver positive results professionally, is also a dedicated social service worker through the Lions Clubs International District 306 A1 since the year 2000. He was the Charter President of the Lions Club of Colombo Millennium, and served in many positions in the club. He has also served in the Lions District 306A1 in various positions like District Coordinators, Zone Chairman and in the year 2019/20 he was the District Cabinet Treasurer. He also received in 2019/20, the Lions International President’s Distinguished Leadership medal. He was instrumental through the Lions Club in giving leadership to Village adoption programs, Preschool education programs, Student Scholarship programs and Sightfirst programs.

Chaminda is married to Sashini Ambagahawita an attorney-at-law, and they are blessed with a little daughter Daksha.
