Chirath Ranathunga has bagged Asia's Management Excellence Award of the Year

Biography

If I give a Simple description about myself, I am Chirath Ranathunga, Sri Lankan, Born in a rural area, a typical village called Bibila, Uva province far away from the capital Colombo city. Currently Working as Senior Manager – PSI Colombo, Hapag-Lloyd AG, Region Middle East. Primary Schooling in rural areas with 3km walking distances by foot. Experienced Project planning and terminal Planning and Execution Manager with a demonstrated history of working in the maritime industry.

Quote: "Planning is important; Failing to plan is planning to Fail” - Benjamin Franklin

"In Preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable” Dwight D. Eisenhower (American President)

Striving to promote myself within the organization, I wish to wear the sleeves of the “C” suit, supervising several dozens of employees. In depth, A role that combines my knowledge and skills in terminal operations, projects and liner shipping experience with my lifelong passion of becoming a global higher "C" level position would be my absolute dream.

Over the past decade, I have built my career on one simple principle: Work smarter and Continuous Improvement. I am the person who looks for inefficient procedures, finds ways to streamline them, and consistently strives to boost the productivity of everyone around me. It is what has earned me career development stage by stage.

My career started as a Shipping Executive at a shipping line who worked for Yang Ming Line. At that point, I realized that for developing the managing tools required to expand and come to hand, my life goals need to gain more experience in bigger organizations, domestic and international exposure. Hence joined the terminal industry almost accrued almost thirteen years Shipping & Port experiences. Worked with a few companies, different cultures, different stakeholders and different colleagues, and worked for different managers. Met good mentors, managers as well as bad managers. However, producing quality work with adaptation is one of key elements of success. I am able to adjust my approach to meet each of their needs and always deliver the best. Once I reached to top management level of my previous company , then I took a career assessment, which told me to have a new challenging globalized position, which integrated to liner shipping, which is my current assignment as Senior Manager. Located in Colombo and again I was so lucky to integrate with a fabulous working environment, positive leaders, friendly colleagues, spirit team, and navigators. Work to enjoy, Enjoy to work.

My mid-term career goal is to become an Expert consultant related to Logistics and Operational Management, while working as an independent volunteer. Further need to mention it gives me immense pleasure to share my volition with each other without impeding my profession.

I believe key ethics is the structural way to learn how to build a career and design life path, which are Integrity & Ethics, Teamwork, Training, Recognition, Communication, and Continuous Improvement. As per my thoughts, Continuous Improvement is the essential clue tool, converting dreams to reality. Hence, learning day by day is much needed. It will only be through this comprehensive and collaborative effort across varied learning. Desiring to build a sustainable career, I am looking forward to taking any challenges where I hope to learn how to create and maintain such an advantage, how to exploit them where “Creating Values” was contemplated, and lay a solid basis for achieving these career goals by myself.

Proudest achievement in working life so far was Port management and development certification in 2015, organized by USDOC SABIT and I was the youngest one of said group. I am thankful to My parents, My wife and family, my teachers, mentors, colleagues, friends, especially my country who were behind my success.

Finally, I would like to have a message to you. Be yourself and respect each other. Good mentors will guide you. Bad managers will knock you how strong you are. Take the risk. Live in simple. Do not miss learning opportunities. Grab the experience and keep the positives. Enjoy to work. Work to Enjoy.

Thank you
