Dr. (Mrs) Beebeejaun-Muslum Zareen Nishaat is a senior lecturer (Sociology) at the Department of Mauritian Studies, Mahatma Gandhi Institute. She has lectured more than seventeen years in the field of Sociology, social issues and problems, gender issues amongst all. Apart from teaching, her research interests are as follows: Gender Issues, Contemporary Mauritian Society, HIV/AIDS related stigma and discrimination, Social impact of Type II Diabetes amongst others. She recently collaborated on a book publication entitled “Achieving Work-Family-Balance (WFB) among professional working women in Mauritius”. She currently resides in Mauritius and can be contacted on zaanish@yahoo.com.

As an academic, she has several publications and possesses a solid foundation in a wide variety of contemporary social issues. Dr. Zareen specialises in teaching sociology, social psychology and counselling up to Masters Level. She has excellent administrative, verbal communication and written skills along with constructive and effective teaching and research methods that promote a stimulating learning environment. She is also able to work in a managerial role or as part of team and having the proven ability to successfully work to tight schedules and deadlines.

Dr. Zareen is an empathetic, warm individual who loves to discover the world and is always engaged in empowering herself and everyone in her surroundings. She is always involved in research, designing new courses and motivating her students to be the best of themselves.
