Dr.
Kasun Gunawardhana: Carrying Forward a Legacy of Holistic Healing
Dr.
Kasun Gunawardhana is a distinguished Ayurvedic physician and the
second-generation custodian of Adhitya Ayurveda, one of Sri Lanka’s most
respected names in traditional wellness. As the son of the esteemed Dr. Sarath
Gunawardhana, a pioneer in the field of indigenous medicine, Dr. Kasun has
grown up steeped in the principles, practices, and philosophies of Ayurveda.
Today, he carries this rich legacy forward with clarity of vision, clinical
expertise, and a deep reverence for the healing traditions passed down through
his family.
As
Director and Consultant Physician at Adhitya Ayurveda, Dr. Kasun plays a
key role in shaping the institution’s evolving identity—rooted in time-honored
Ayurvedic principles, yet responsive to the needs of the modern world. He
oversees both Adhitya's serene wellness retreat in Anuradhapura and its
growing urban center in Colombo, ensuring a consistent standard of
personalized, holistic care across all locations.
His
academic foundation reflects a blend of traditional knowledge and modern
healthcare administration. Dr. Kasun holds a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine
and Surgery (BAMS) from the prestigious Gujarat Ayurved University
in Jamnagar, India—a global center for Ayurvedic education. He further enhanced
his qualifications with a Master’s degree in Ayurvedic Hospital Management
from Sabaragamuwa University, equipping him with the tools to lead
clinical operations while upholding patient-centered healing environments.
Dr.
Kasun's clinical interests are deeply aligned with the core values of
Ayurveda—restoring balance and harmony within the individual. He is
particularly known for his expertise in Panchakarma therapy, the
classical Ayurvedic detoxification process, which he adapts to meet the needs
of each patient. His therapeutic approach is comprehensive and empathetic,
especially in the management of chronic and neurological conditions,
including stroke recovery, Parkinson’s disease, muscular
dystrophy, and multiple sclerosis. Through personalized care plans,
Dr. Kasun aims not just to treat symptoms but to address the root causes of
illness, empowering patients to take an active role in their own healing
journey.
Beyond
the consultation room, Dr. Kasun is a passionate advocate for the integration
of Ayurveda into global wellness conversations. He regularly contributes to
educational initiatives, wellness retreats, and professional forums, promoting
Ayurveda as not just a system of medicine but a way of life—one that
honors the intelligence of nature and the inherent wisdom of the human body.
