My name is Hassan Hussain Fulhu. I am a Fashion Designer working in the Maldives. I have my own business named ‘Yusha Iris Tailors’ based in the capital city of Maldives; Male’. It has been roughly 33 years since I began my work in the field of designing. From stitching uniforms for neighbourhood friends to stitching gowns for well-known celebrities, it has been a hectic journey. I completed a Diploma in Fashion Designing and Management from Fortune institute in Bangalore. I have also been a lecturer for a Ladies Dress Making course in Maldives Media Institute during the years 2019 and 2020.
The course was by Malaysia Limkokwing University. Moreover, I have given various designing and embroidery courses in different atolls in Maldives for people who have passion for fashion designing. My business is mostly known by the locals for renting our Traditional Dresses for different occasions. I have received many offers from different Resorts and other well-known companies for their staff uniforms and other attires.
I’ve been designing and stitching Maldives Airports Company Limited duty-free uniforms for the past 2-3 years. Furthermore, I’ve been designing and sewing event attires for Ministers and other upper-class men in the Maldives. In addition to this, I have also participated in a show called “Fashion in House '' organised by Dhivas MV which was broadcasted on national television. From head to toe I have used my own production in the making of beach-wear for this show’s Season 1.
For Season 2, I have created a unique line of official attires for both women and men. After years of hard-work I am fully thankful for receiving the National Award in this field in the year 2020. I have created two course books in our native language; Dhivehi, in hopes of opening an institute for Fashion Designing. Therefore, I am overwhelmed and grateful towards the RULA Awards for giving me the opportunity to represent my work. I am thankful for receiving ‘Asia's Outstanding Fashion Lifestyle and Leadership Award' by Asia Awards powered by Rula Awards. I feel like this is a good opportunity for me to present my work to a diverse audience.
