Teaching has always been my passion. From the very first moment I step into a classroom, I start to build trust with my students. I believe students should first trust their lecturer in order to have a healthy learning atmosphere. I have become aware that teaching is not really about teaching, it’s about learning. It doesn’t matter how excellent I think I am as a lecturer if my students feel they do not learn anything. One basic principle in my teaching philosophy is that it needs to be tailored, as much as possible, to students’ interests and current abilities. Teaching should be learner-centered starting from learner needs and objectives and not from what the lecturer wants them to put in their heads.

TRAINER’S PROFILE 

My name is K Tharmalingam and I was born on 4^th February 1980 in Raub, Pahang as the youngest son of two children. I grew up in a small town. I am so lucky for having parents that willingly burn their candles at both ends just to meet our needs. I successfully completed my MBA from Universiti Utara Malaysia in 2015. I am a free-lance qualified lecturer/trainer. 

My current employment as an Admin and Business Development Manager at Angkasa Training Centre Sdn Bhd, Bangsar Utama, Kuala Lumpur. My duties are more focusing on executive education for working adults especially on business development matters. Other areas of work involvement in strategic, tactical and administrative planning for executive education operations. 

Besides his work, he also actively involved himself in teaching and training. Mr K Tharmalingam has been a Corporate Trainer/Freelance University Lecturer since 2007 and he has given lectures and has conducted in-house training programmes for the companies he served and external companies that are aware of his credentials and vast practical experience. He has the unique ability to connect with people and uses humour and creative teaching techniques in his workshop sessions. He adopts a practical approach and provides relevant applications in his session. He is also able to simplify the theories and relate them to real life examples to enhance the learning process. These are priceless experiences to him that he always wishes to share and inspire participants to build up their courage and skills.

Besides that, he is a senior facilitator, trainer and workshop developer in the field of information technology and management skills. He has over 15 years of experience in both developing and delivering workshops on information technology (Management Information System and E-commerce) and management skills with emphasis on Human Resource Management, Organisational Behaviour and Marketing. He has provided these services to a variety of major corporate and not-for profit clients throughout the world. Mr K Tharmalingam has extensive experience working with all levels of professionals, as shown by his work in developing competency-based training and providing one-on-one and group consultative services. Mr K Tharmalingam at ease with cross-cultural and multi-cultural audiences based on his direct working and living experiences with Asian cultures.

During the Covid19 pandemic, he has changed his teaching methods. His lectures and trainings were conducted through online platform, is that takes place over the Internet. It is often referred to as “e-learning” among other terms. However, online learning is just one type of “distance learning” - the umbrella term for any learning that takes place across distance and not in a traditional classroom. He was enjoyed with new approach of online learning focusing on teaching-learning styles, technology and innovation. 

Furthermore, I bagged the Achievement Award from International Icon Awards year 2022 as a “Outstanding Trainer of the Year”. As an educator, it is always a great feeling to give back and impart educational lessons and tools to students. In this way, I am not just teaching them but also part of their life changing experience.
