Biography : Khim Bahadur Gurung
A great Greek philosopher Aristotle’s famous saying, “The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet”, is pretty much true to an academician, entrepreneur, community leader and sports lover Mr. Khim Bahadur Gurung, who had to combat with multiple obstacles in gaining education and achieving the set goals in academic field, and who now is relishing his achievements.
Childhood and Education
Khim Bahadur Gurung was born in a remote village in Syangja district, Gandaki zone (currently Gandaki Province, Syangja District Waling Municipality - 3) Nepal in 1973. He spent his childhood and teenage years in the same village associating himself with traditional agriculture and animals husbandry. Just simply to gain his primary education, he had to walk on foot for a couple of hours every day to get to school and come back home. Nevertheless, he never let his will power drop. He completed his SLC (10th Grade) when education was rarely approachable to common people, and when people hardly knew how significant education is in human life.
Khim Bahadur Gurung was born in such a community and caste in which joining British or Indian Army for young boys has become an undeclared set custom. However, unlike the other young boys of his time, he didn’t long for joining the army, rather he understood the value of education and decided to pursue his higher education. He then determined himself to do something in the field of education. In order to achieve his goal, he left his village and went to Pokhara, one of the most beautiful cities in Nepal, where he joined a college and put in his untiring efforts in gaining his higher education. He completed his I.Sc. degree in Forestry Science in 1993. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Sociology in 1998. He then completed his PGDCA with CGPA 3.94 in 2003 and he obtained his Master's Degree majoring in Anthropology in 2014.
Career in Teaching: A Profession
While he was still a student at college, he took up the job of teaching as his career. He started teaching from the beginning of 1994. He taught both in privately run English medium schools and government schools. He finds this profession so noble and benevolent that he highly regards it and loves to carry on till time and circumstances favour him. One of the reasons why he loves teaching is that he believes getting education or being educated is not merely removing one’s ignorance and accumulating knowledge for oneself, but sharing and transforming the gained knowledge to the young generation is a great humanitarian service.
Khim Bahadur Gurung has a wide range of teaching experience. He has spent a very significant period of his lifetime, almost three decades, in teaching and school management, and still tirelessly involved in it. In addition to it, he has participated in various professional training and workshops, and successfully completed them which are reflected in his work skills, be it in management, be it in teaching or be it in treating staff, students and dealing with parents on a psychological basis. He has visited different countries like the USA, Canada, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia to attend international seminars, training, conferences and workshops related to education.
