I
am Kormagen Valaven, a 20-year-old aspiring chef hailing from Mauritius.
Recognized as a driven culinary talent, I was honored with the Best of
Gastronomie Bronze Chef award in 2022. Additionally, I am a proud member of the
Mauritian Chefs Association and have actively participated in various local
competitions, including Kitchen Battle, Olympiades de la Gastronomie Escoffier,
and the Arla Pro Competition.
While awaiting eagerly my impending graduation following two and
a half years of studies at Polytechnics Mauritius and a valuable internship
experience at Le Royal Meridien in Doha, Qatar during the FIFA World Cup 2022,
I am currently furthering my professional development at Baumanière Hotel &
Spa in France.
After dedicating myself to these beautiful years of hard work
and perseverance, I am thrilled to announce that I have been honored with the
prestigious Asia's Rising Star Chef Award by Asia Awards, presented by the
World Research Congress. I am deeply grateful to Asia Awards for acknowledging
my relentless efforts and commitment during this incredible journey. This
recognition marks just the beginning of an exciting chapter, and I look forward
to many more milestones in the journey ahead.
My goal is to showcase the vibrant and diverse Mauritian cuisine,
which is a tapestry of various cultures and traditions. I aim to promote our
local products and support our artisans while reviving the cultural influences
from around the world that converge on our island. Through my dishes, I want to
share the culinary experiences I've cherished with my loved ones, infusing each
plate with not just skills and savoir faire, but also with stories and memories
of our beautiful island .
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has placed their
trust, support, and contributions towards my journey, with special appreciation
to my parents, friends, families, and the Polytechnics Mauritius. Their
unwavering encouragement and guidance have propelled me to this level of
success, and I am especially indebted to my mentor, Chef Rajiv Tapsee, whose
mentorship has been invaluable in shaping my culinary path.
