Professor Dr. Natesan Gopal has more than 20
years of experience in R&D Functions, Operations, Teaching as well as
research activities. He is a highly
creative and self-motivated Professor cum researcher in Pharmaceutical
Chemistry filed. Prof Gopal currently
works as Professor in Pharmacy and Director for Regulatory Affairs at MAHSA
University, Malaysia.
He completed his Master's degree in Pharmacy (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) and did a Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi in 2001. During his Ph.D., he was awarded the highly competitive and prestigious individual Senior Research Fellowship (1997 to 2000) from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India, New Delhi. He has gained in-depth knowledge in drug discovery involving the synthesis and characterization of novel small heterocyclic molecules (quinazolinone and benzimidazole pharmacophore) for screening various pharmacological and toxicological activities.
In 2001, Dr. Natesan Gopal joined Ranbaxy
Research Laboratory as Research Scientist in Research and Development section,
where he gained experience in operating and analysing the data from
sophisticated instruments, after which, he joined Orchid Chemicals and
Pharmaceuticals Ltd as a Research Associate and gained experienced in designing
and synthesising new molecules for infectious diseases. Along with that, he was
also exposed to the Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) as per the OECG Guidelines
for the pre-clinical trial study in evaluating the study plan, planning, and
execution of the trials by QA Audit.
He acquainted and acquired good experience in setting up, calibrating, operating, and maintaining a variety of laboratory and/or field research equipment as specified by the requirements of the research study. On the other hand, Dr. Gopal also has exposure to the Quality Assurance area in ensuring that appropriate procedures & standards for the collection and preservation of analytical samples are adhered to.
As part of his explicit interest in gaining
experience in teaching and conducting his research interest, he joined the
academics and started his career as a researcher cum academician. During his
tenure, he was appointed as Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and Principal of
Pharmacy Colleges in India in 2004. He has held many senior positions and
supervised postgraduate students from the level of Master's to Ph.D. He holds ample managerial experience in India
and Malaysia. At MAHSA University was the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs
& Operations, as well as for Research & Innovation.
For the past 10 years, he led the Curriculum Development Team in MAHSA and was involved in developing the curriculum, coordinating for the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and Quality Assurance (QA) Unit. Currently, he is the Director for Regulatory Affairs (Education, Quality and Audit Learning Unit) along with his Professorship in Medicinal Chemistry.
Prof Dr. Gopal has published several research
papers in indexed journals and presented his research findings at National
& International Conferences. He has also received research grants
internally and externally. Prof. Dr. Gopal has been an editorial board member
and peer reviewer for several reputed journals like the International Journal
of Pharma World Research, India and Food & Chemical Technology, USA, and
Archive der Pharmazie, Italy.
Prof Dr. Gopal received a number of honours for
his research work and publications, specifically in 2013, when he was awarded
the "Young Scientist Award" for his research contribution by the
International Society of Nature & Health Care Inc, USA, and the University
of Colombo & University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and in 2017 when he was
awarded the "Edward Kennedy Memorial Award" in the 2nd Global Cancer
Summit, Kuala Lumpur for his outstanding contribution for his research in the
field of Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
Prof Gopal served as a Chairman for different International Conferences and also as an Organizing Committee member. Based on Prof Gopal's research contribution, he has been appointed to the panel of assessor of Malaysia Research Assessment (MyRA) by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education, Government of Malaysia.
Prof Dr. Natesan Gopal has international
teaching exposure to different chemistry modules as Franchise Lecturer for
Liverpool John Moores University, UK, and Northumbria University UK for
Pharmacy and Biomedical Science programs respectively. He serves as an External
Examiner for the Master and Ph.D. programs of Universities in India and
International Medical University (IMU), Malaysia.
How do you feel after receiving the Asia Awards?
I am overjoyed and happy to have won two of
Asia's most prestigious awards: Asia's
Best Researcher Award under the category of Asia's Research Award and Asia's Inspiring Personality Award in
the category of Asia's Achievers Awards. This is indeed one of my life's
greatest moments as it motivates me to do more in research and academics. I
appreciate Asia Award powered by RULA Awards and World Chamber for honoring me
with the best and for appreciating my hard work. I gratefully thank the
distinguished panel members who chose me for these prestigious prizes.
