Risham Marooz has bagged Asia's Best Social Activist Award


Mohamed Marooz Mohamed Risham was born in Wellawatte, Western Province, Sri Lanka, on February 15, 1981. He attended Colombo 12's Hameed-al-Husseinie national school. He finished his education by taking the GCE Ordinary Level Examination. He was motivated to work in a variety of disciplines since he was committed to social service. He firmly believed that standing up to all of society's injustices is a service to one's own country, ensuring the country's national security and fulfilling one's commitment to the motherland. He married Fathima Shiyama in 2003 but the marriage ended in less then a year. Risham Marooz’s second marriage took place in 2007 Kekirawa. There were two childrens.  

He began speaking out on social media about injustices against minorities in the country, and he became a controversial figure in the society. In addition, the name “Risham Marooz “became popular in the society. In the year 2017, he spoke out against the atrocities that were being perpetrated against his country, and he fought tirelessly to abolish racism and develop inter-ethnic friendship. In addition, he engaged in public service to help all the needy in society and he formed an organization to assist all those who could not afford the basic needs. Disabled persons and families who were helpless due to financial hardships, as well as financially disadvantaged students were among them.  

He was appointed Justice of the Peace in 2018, and he carried out his dues with zeal in order to make a positive social contribution. The year 2019 marked a turning point in his life. The main reason for this was the horrific terrorist aack on the innocent Catholic community in Sri Lanka on April 21, 2019. The aack claimed 300 innocent lives and le nearly 250 disabled. Risham Marooz, who has been exploring the areas of afcon since 2019, called on the religious leaders of the group to work with and to save the naon in order to ensure national security of the country.

Besides, he stood against the injustice done to the Catholic community, apart from his own. He revealed to the public all the evidences he had about extremist groups affiliated with terrorist organizaons through the media. However, he was then subjected to endless tragic death threats from those extremist groups. He overcame those obstacles and testified as a witness in the Presidential Commission formed by the Sri Lankan government to investigate the Easter aack. He mentioned that he had done his service for the country and that he had revealed all this for the protection of all races in the country. He was later presented with the deshamanya (patriot) award by the majority of sri lankan buddhists in recognition of his services.  

He connues with his social services in the midst of various obstacles and lives a normal life in a very difficult area. Following the media coverage of the Easter aack as well as due to various external pressure, he changed the name of his organization he started in 2019 to nawa mahajana sewa sanwidanaya. (New Public Service Organization).
