Ronald T Roncales has bagged Asia's Outstanding Teacher Award

I am Ronald T. Roncales, Teacher III from San Vicente Elementary School Division of Quezon City, Department of Education Philippines. I have been teaching for 17 years since 2004 as teacher I and recently promoted as Teacher III.  Not just a regular class adviser, I co-founded the schools cultural performing arts group known as San Vicente Balangay Performing Arts Group in 2014 who have been performing and winning year-on-year to different Philippine Folk Dance Competition, Contemporary Dances, different Academic competitions, Science Investigatory Projects, Sports and even national pageants for elementary students. This paved the way for our students to get scholarships and showcase their talents and get invitations from different government agencies to perform. We have members as young as 5years who started training and age up to 12 years old to prepare them for future competitions and shows. Note that we are providing the training 100% free, totally zero payment from our members and not getting any allowance from the school or the government. All expenses are shouldered by me and my co-founder.

Aside from being a class adviser, I am also serving as an Instructional Manager of the Alternative Learning System Program by the Department of Education for out of school youth and adults. I have been involved in teaching out of school youth and adults for 7 years and consistently been awarded as Outstanding Instructional Manager for ALS and for my service in providing quality education and maintaining the highest number of passers in the division. Providing basic learning (reading and writing) and vocational training programs is one of my biggest achievements. Our ALS learners are also involved in the community by doing charity work and sharing the technical skills that they learned from us to other people in the city.

I have served as a faculty club officer since 2010 and elected as President for 2 years since 2019-2021 and reelected for my second term as faculty president for school year 2021-2023. Being a faculty president starting the pandemic period is truly very challenging. I have to work by myself, attend meetings and solicit help from different organizations in the city to help support the needs of our teachers, students, and the entire school. Some of my projects are “Distribution of Covid-19 Protection Kits'', School facilities disinfection, Community Pantry initiated by the QCPSTA (Quezon City Public School Teachers Association), Feeding Program, Rally to raise the salaries of the teachers in the entire Philippines, FundRaising projects by collecting used papers, bottles, and cans to help lessen the garbage in the community.

Aside from being an advocate of promoting cultural awareness, I am also involved in promoting the Gender and Development program, LGBTQI equality, and HIV/STD Prevention Awareness in the district. I have also received awards for these advocacies.

Lastly, I am now a proud member of the Rotary International- Rotary Club of Cubao Sunrise here in Manila. Our purpose is to promote charity, camaraderie, friendship and compassion. We do a lot of charity events like Community Pantry- it is a project where we give food to the people in our community. Food such as vegetables, grocery items, clothes and others.
