This is Suneetha Ali, the renowned artist Sunee, the performer, the choreographer and the entrepreneur. Making way, branching out to reach the sky, never leaving the roots. Determined, focused and hardworking, making space in the cut throat market to survive and inspire. 

Journey milestones

Childhood: Coming from a middle class family, dreams were meant to be dreams only. The uncertain environment of island life those days back in 70s a girl child was never seen as a thing of substance who could pursue studies, let alone pursuing a dream. Resulted in a short lived marriage at the young age of 13, which left me in confusion yet a hint of rebellion to pursue what I wanted.

First step: Life took a 360 degree turn when I decided to settle in the capital city, where we always believed we had the solution for every problem, dream and confusion. Educating myself while serving to the people where I had a roof over my head was the daily usual routine. Nothing different yet feeling different within due to the burning need inside me to make myself a person recognized for talent and hard work. 

Opportunities:  At the age of 16 the first moment to get visible arrived. Got the narrow chance to perform for the then show, the weekend show which was meant for the public to enjoy after a busy week. That was where my flight took off and has been up in the air with god grace till today, approaching 30^th year in the industry. It had and has its turbulence yet didn’t stop me from achieving what I wanted. I am like a child in need of knowledge, craving more with each step. It led me to dancing, choreography, videography and direction to production. 

Field and hands on: The production work and choreography work has bagged more than 14 different awards, in 10 years of span, which gave me the satisfaction of accomplishment. Went on giving all I could with the experience I have lived and earned. Being self-taught I always received applause and criticism equally in the industry, which gave me the prick but never stopped me from moving ahead. Resulted in being part of 15 movies, including short films, feature films and tv drama serials. No role is a small role for me as I was learning and observing the entire surrounding how everything operated. Including the camera to the movements of the actors. The biggest achievement of recognition is winning the International Women Icon 2021 award. Which left me in awe.

Production House, my heart: The Sunee production house was meant to be born. Close people encouraged with love, seeing my dedication I should have my own production house to bring entertainment to people the way I liked. Believing in loved ones I started a series of video song album called “hiydeewana” which made its 7 releases in 7 years, and topped the chart for weeks.

International platforms: The real satisfaction was when people realized and treated me as a worthy person to represent my own country in other international platforms. I have proudly set foot to never let down my country and have proved in every given chance. This commitment and loyalty lead me to meet my idol in the field, India’s most popular actress, Priyanka Chopra while she was invited to a show arranged by the government of Maldives. I was later featured in GQ magazine of India and titled as the biggest fan of Priyanka Chopra. 

Sunee the philanthropist: The struggle, the sweat and blood I bled lead me to be more rooted to the ground, be humble and empathize for people. I would always show up for any volunteer service I could cater for any good cause. The NGOs have a good connection and a bond with me as I assure them to be present if not anything.

Into Entrepreneurship, New Dawn: A new dawn broke into a new day, I felt loved and lived the fame of entertainment for 25+ years in the industry uninterrupted. With a full heart I wanted to branch out to a new field, to test out my much praised cooking skills. The homebased venture is a success, from dear ones to strangers started recognizing and appreciating the taste of my own home cooked meals. Planning to expand to a bigger platform, yet it’s a dream uncolored. With god’s grace untiringly working towards creating a secure future for myself and my loved ones.

Much Appreciation: This moment of appreciation is for Asia Awards for reaching out to me in support and recognition of my work. The heartfelt thank you would not be enough as the Asia Awards made it to me, appreciating my work while some very close people have been incapable of recognizing my hard work. This means a lot and a lot of encouragement for my success and strength in the future.

Word of Sunee: The struggle is real. The success is seen. So People ask my secret to fitness, my energy. My answer is discipline, No smoking, No energy drink, just take care of your mental stability. Everything else follows.
