Sylvester Ronny Anak Pulene has bagged Asia's Outstanding Young Teacher Award

I was born on June 4, 1988 in Kanowit Sarawak. I am the second child of Mr. Pulene anak Memuas and Mrs. Edut anak Udam. I am a preschool teacher from a  rural school ( Sk Sungai Kapit, Kapit Sarawak, Malaysia). My education background is that I started school at Sk Nanga Poi Kanowit Sarawak in 1995 – 2000 and continued my studies to secondary school at Smk Sedaya Kanowit Sarawak (2001-2005) . After graduating from high school I continued my studies to diploma level. I have a diploma in early childhood education from PTPL college, a bachelor's degree in early childhood education from Management and Science University, and a Master in early childhood education from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris. Now I want to continue my studies to PhD level in early childhood education.

Before I became a teacher, I was a full time lecturer at ASIA e University at Subang Jaya Selangor Malaysia. And now I am still teaching at the University as a part time lecturer. I am always involved with research, especially research on early childhood education. I have also published articles in journals.  In 2021, I have been selected to represent the Kapit District Education Office at the state level to present the results of the research I conducted at the school. In addition, I am always involved with international conferences and being a presenter. I have represented Malaysia at the UNESCO international conference on the issue of ensuring quality education for children on 12-13 June 2021. I also represented Malaysia in UNICEF international conference on the issue of ‘protection of children from violence, exploitation and abuse’ on 3-4 July 2021.

Beside that, my life as a teacher during the covid-19 pandemic. The world of education was not left behind from being hit by the Covid-19 pandemic that has hit our country since the beginning of 2020. Indirectly, it also affects the national education system. Learning and Teaching (PdP) which is usually implemented face -to -face in the classroom has been replaced with virtual teaching and learning known as Teaching and Learning at Home (PdPR). The implementation of PdPR is not an easy task as communication between teachers and students is quite limited, let alone being bribed with various problems such as critical internet access in some places as well as the situation of students who are still in preschool are not yet proficient in educational technology except with the help and cooperation of parent  at home. So that my students do not lag behind in learning, I have diversified my teaching and learning methods. for students who have trouble accessing the internet or do not have technological facilities. I would send the assignments and exercises to the student’s home every day.

Next, the award I ever got is in 2021, I received an award as an outstanding Pre-Primary Teacher by Global Education Summit and Award.  And now  I will receive a praiseworthy  award again  titled, Received “Asia’s Outstanding Young Teacher’ by Asia Awards powered  by RULA Awards under the category “Asia’s Education Awards”.  I am very thankful to our Almighty God for all the guidance, perseverance and knowledge that he had given to us. I believe that he has a big plan for giving me this international award. I dedicate this award to my head master and administrators who believed and trust my capabilities as a preschool teacher, Sir. Mohd Sabli bin Badi, Sir. Kenyulong Anak Sengkuai, Ma’am Betty Anak Jawit, Ma’am Caroline Ja Anak Nabau and my colleague at Sk Sungai Kapit Sarawak. Thank you so much to my family who were always at my back to support and inspire me; and to my pupils, for making me complete for who I am as their teacher. And of course, I would like to give many thanks to ASIA Awards powered by: RULA AWARD for choosing me as your international Asia’s Outstanding Young Teacher of the year awardee, under the category of Asia’s Education Awards.
