Education Background

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia, awarded Ts. Sr Khoo Sui Lai a Bachelor of Building in Construction Economics and a Postgraduate Diploma of Building in Construction Economics.

He also holds a Diploma in Quantity Surveying from the Institut Teknologi Pertama (ITP), Malaysia. Ts. Sr Khoo is a doctoral student in PhD (Engineering) at Malaysia's Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). In addition, he is continuously expanding his professional growth and education by participating in conferences, webinars, seminars, lectures, etc.

Professional Background and Involvement

Ts. Sr Khoo participates actively in local and international professional organisations. He is a Fellow Member of the Royal Institution of Surveyors of Malaysia (RISM) and a Consultant Quantity Surveyor (CQS) with the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM).

Additionally, he is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Malaysian Board of Technologists (MBOT), the Malaysian Green Building Council (MalaysiaGBC), the Institute of Value Management Malaysia (IVMM), and the Technologist Association Malaysia.

He formerly held a number of roles in professional organisations, including those of RISM's Quantity Surveying Division's Committee Member, Secretary, and Treasurer. He served as the Division of RISM QS Chair for Education, Sports, and Young QS. He serves as the conference chair and is a committee member for numerous events organised by RISM and BQSM. He will serve as the conference's organising chair in 2023. (RISM International Research Conference (IRC 5.0)). As the Chair of the Education and Accreditation Board, University Partnering, and Young Surveyors Group for Sessions 2022 and 2023 of RISM, he is now a Councillor. Ts. Sr Khoo chairs the publication and information technology committee and serves on the BQSM board.

Additionally, he participates actively in professional organisations across the world, serving as a committee member for the Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS). He is presently the PAQS Research Committee's Secretary as well.

Working Experience

Ts. Sr Khoo has years of pre-contract and post-contract construction experience both locally and globally. He has expertise working on medium-rise, residential, and commercial construction projects. Ts. Sr Khoo is also active in building projects in the Middle East, including Doha, Qatar, the Kingdom of Bahrain, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

He has always been interested in the education sector. He worked as a part-time lecturer at a few Malaysian private universities. He currently works as a full-time instructor for the QS Program at the School of Architecture & Built Environment, Faculty of Technology, Architecture & Built Environment, UCSI University. He oversees undergraduate students for the programme in addition to lecturing.

Research, Grants and Awards

Ts. Sr Khoo has a strong interest in economics, sustainable development, and digital building. His current research focuses are on smart cities, biophilic development, and eTendering. He recently received recognition for the following:

• Silver Award, Malaysia Trade Expo, Sustainable Development Goal (MTE SDG),
• Best Paper Award, International Conference on Applied Science and Technology (ICAST 2021),

• 10^th International Conference on Applied Science and Technology (10^th ICAST 2022),
• Special Award by Asia Invention Creativity Association (AICA), World Innovation Contest (WiC 2021),
• Gold Award, 3rd World Invention Olympiad Fair (WIOF 2021), Special Award by Asia Invention Creativity Association (AICA),
• 4th World Invention Olympiad Fair (WIOF 2021),
• Gold Award, 4th World Invention Olympiad Fair (WIOF 2022), and
• Special Award by Korea Invention News (KINEWS), 4th World Invention Olympiad Fair (WIOF 2022).

Additionally, he was awarded Outstanding Young Leader of the Year at the International Icon Awards 2022 and Outstanding Leading Educationist of the Year at the World Leaders & Achievers Conclave 2022.
