PROF. DR. NATALIE KOELMEYER
Physician • Psychotherapist • Addiction Recovery Specialist • Entrepreneur
A life devoted to understanding the human mind—and helping
people believe that recovery, reinvention and a return to self are
possible.
Medicine Beyond the Consultation Room
Prof. Dr. Natalie Koelmeyer is a medical doctor, psychotherapist, addiction-recovery specialist, researcher and entrepreneur whose work is united by one belief: people can change when they are met with understanding, evidence-based care and professionals who genuinely believe in their capacity to recover. With 14 years in medicine, she has built a career at the intersection of physical health, psychology, behavioural neuroscience and human performance.
Her clinical focus includes mental-health disorders and the treatment of alcohol and drug dependence. Yet the quality she considers most central to her work is not a qualification—it is the patience to understand the person behind the diagnosis. Her professional experience includes work connected with Tianjin General Hospital in China, Mayo Clinic in the United States and the National Health Service in the United Kingdom. Today, she leads therapeutic residential rehabilitation facilities in Sri Lanka serving local and international patients, while her outpatient work reaches people across Sri Lanka, India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Africa.
A Broader Vision for Recovery
Her work extends beyond clinical treatment into prevention, public education and systems change. She is the initiator and founder of the National Suicide Prevention Programme for Sri Lanka, an initiative intended to develop into a nationally relevant model with future global application. Her ambition is to bring together awareness, early identification, crisis response and pathways to sustained care— particularly for young people and families who may otherwise suffer in silence. She is also the founder of Serenya Wellness, a botanical wellness brand created around holistic wellbeing and the relationship between modern science, emotional regulation and nature-led daily rituals. Through Serenya, she is translating her clinical understanding into accessible products and conversations that support calm, sleep, resilience and healthier living.

Research, Writing and the Person Behind the Work
Prof. Dr. Koelmeyer continues to work as a researcher and is the author of the forthcoming book Coming Home to Yourself, a deeply personal exploration designed to help readers rediscover identity, self-trust and emotional freedom. Across medicine, recovery, entrepreneurship and writing, her work consistently returns to the same human question: what becomes possible when a person is finally given the safety and courage to return to who they are? Beyond her professional life, she is a proud mother of four children—Nathan, Jeremiah, Seraya and Serena. Motherhood, she says, deepens her commitment to prevention, emotional education and building a society in which children can ask for help before pain becomes crisis.
Prof. Dr. Natalie Koelmeyer represents a generation of Sri Lankan professionals working
beyond conventional boundaries : bringing medicine together with psychology,
rehabilitation, research, entrepreneurship and compassionate public leadership.
